Years ago I attended a talk by Paul Farmer at Stanford that was a part of a 200th anniversary celebration of Haiti's Independence. I asked him why he had not linked with someone like you as you obviously have a faster and greater means of reaching people. He replied that most singers were politically aligned and dismissed me. Later that night we chatted and I said that it would be great to have both of you at the table figuring this stuff out. He said if I can do it, he would be down. Since then you have started Yele, gone fully into politics, & continue to do your music. That other Caribbean artists could just be as compassionate and politically astute as you. What would it take and how great a change can it have on a region that suffers from an insular island mentality, that has artists believing that because they are "Trinbagonian" their performance in Guyana at a political rally is strictly business and meant to only push soca music. Nevermind the political party is viewed as one of the most corrupt in the region. Makes one wonder what is the responsibility of the Caribbean artist, especially given the fact that so many young people have to build a region under serious limitations due to things like climate change. Delete whoever is not charged for murder, rape, or battery or spewing homophobic lyrics and the pool gets small. There is work to be done for sure.

Think your experience with Yele (e.g. building of shit houses - as an engineer we like to call shit shit because it is) probably opened your eyes to the importance of science and technology in development. We've launched a Caribbean Science Foundation and maybe time soon come to have that roundtable/workshop with the likes of a paul farmer and a wyclef jean. Continue to lead with compassion and humility.

Understanding everything that I have read regarding our production nationale it is up to us the newer generation and the baby boomers of Haitian descent to share that awareness with our people. Also to promote our local production and serve as a lifeline for peasant production. I said this to say that we are their last hope, if we do not step in to help the people and the economics of our country so one else will. I believe in action, what do we need to do now.

"We need to find out who the 3 largest donors of Red Cross, UNICEF, and CARE are; mobilize as Haitians or friends of Haiti; and boycott (STOP BUYING/USING) 2 or 3 of their most popular product/services- until these big corporations demand action in Haiti- from these large non-profits that have collected millions and billions. We, as an international community should not continue to tolerate this. After we pray, after we cry, then what? Think of what Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King would do. We need to take action! We, the people, have power! We, the people, have a say in what goes on in Haiti." WE CARE! http://facebook.com/dinaspeaks http://facebook.com/chynamilla

Dear Wyclef,

Congratulations on your attempt at the presidency. I had your back all the way, but things cannot always go the way we want. The people of Haiti have been blessed with a person with such passion and creativity. I know that the work that you will do behind the scenes will continue to benefit the next generation of Haitians. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Yaw Osei-Aning

H Ramos Says:

Sep 21, 2010 - Haiti is a country in need of everything & that must start from day one. New blood, not a politician but a humanitarian with the heart & soul committed to haiti all the way. Management can & must be outsourced, the world is ready to assist haiti now more than ever, but only if is for the right reasons & not to line the pockets of those that profess good when all they're after is profit. Wylclef brings new blood & the willingness to assemble a world class team to run Haiti's affairs as a fortune 500 corporation, demanding sacrifice from this generation of Hatians in order to deliver to haiti what it has never had, a future for it's future generations. Give this man an inch, he'll deliver 100 feet. The pledge from the world to Haiti must be unconditional support to its people that whatever they succeed in producing will be bought & whatever assistance they need to get to a level of producing first class products for the world's consumption. Haiti must first become an agricultural country, re foresting its land, while moving forward towards programs that will teach its youth new technologies. Give Wylclef & his supporters a chance & maybe, just maybe Haiti will have the opportunity it deserves; 8 yrs can change the face of Haiti for ever. Just an honest opinion from a person that tried numerous times to set up businesses in Haiti to fail due to the corruption & instability of its governments.

Hey Wyclef,

It's so saddened to accept that news, but i'm so proud of your courage and your commitment to help this country my friend.

I am Haitian, and i do have a lot of plans for Haiti. At this present moment, i can't really do anything, but im working so hard to make it happen. Since you are already in the spotlight, i want to ask you for a huge favor.

Here's the deal, for every disaster in the world, Somebody has to CASH IN. Don't get me wrong, people don't want you to be president, because their stocks or their shares will be at risks.

Now, I have studied business and computer science, and i know how a system works. You need to have a new approach, well i don't want to lay it out here for everyone to see. But, if you are interested about my ideas, please contact me at:

jo_ramses@hotmail.com

Talk soon!!

Keep your head up. "Where there's a WALL, there's a WAY..."

If we are not vigilant against abuses on Haitians by the UN soldiers (Minustah), we may soon have
a similar report in Haiti as with this link: http://afghanistan.blogs.cnn.com/2010/09/09/army-12-soldiers-killed-afghans-mutiliated-corpses/

The Minustah? They are in Haiti to do what? My opinion: It is political positioning to ultimately gain control. The question: How much of Haiti do the UN and US wants to or believe they need to control?...for how many years?...and for what purpose? The Minustah have been given a passport-to-kill Haitians they are supposed to protect- with no questions asked! Why?

Please note: I am not a family member of Wyclef; I have never gotten a "free" concert ticket from Wyclef nor his affiliates; I, my affiliates, nor my ministry, have never applied for nor received a grant or money (in any form) from Wyclef, his affiliates, nor Yele; I have never personally met Wyclef nor have spoken with his staff. Most importantly, I CANNOT be bought! I am one who loves justice, move with justice, and is motivated by justice. I am also one whom has a deep love and concern for humans and animal. I love the earth and consider myself responsible for its health and welfare. I worked tirelessly during Obama's campaign. And, I support Wyclef Jean. Wyclef is not in this for self-gain.

I truly believe Wyclef loves and is devoted to the betterment of Haiti and the Haitian people. Wyclef is also one who will not "sell-out" Haiti- through fear. He will stand and remain standing- as the pillar God has made him to be. WYCLEF IS ONE OF THE FEW BREEDS God has saved- to give a people a second chance. As to his other personal business (taxes, management of his non-profit, etc), those are resolvable matters for which he has taken steps to correct. Even for me, the Saved sinner that I am, there are non-pardonable actions that, if they were to be **raised and proven** about Wyclef, I, myself, would advocate for him to be removed amongst us. All I have seen thus far is, politics-in-action. Attacks, criticizing, back-biting, back-stabbing, some sell-outs, etc. It's all expected in politics. The most important people to listen to at times of campaigning- are the voice of the people who will vote!

------In reference to the FaceBook video (by Coulgi Creolehiphopking) criticizing Wyclef's recent song:

When I see and read about people criticizing Wyclef, I can only ask...where were you when Haiti was an unknown...a forgotten nation. "Give honor to whom honor is due." Wyclef has placed Haiti "on the map!" No one can take from him, what he as already been recognized for. And, as far as his song against the CEP, he did a very good job. His emotions (sadness) could be felt. I would love a remix of that song...but with the Wyclef, the warrior, strong advocate we have come to know and love.

Haiti, "Who loves you baby?"
If placed side-by-side with Sean Penn- along with all others whom has professed a sincere love for Haiti and the Haitian people, would a majority of the country's population truly side with those whom has declared a deep hatred for Haiti's beloved...Wyclef? History dictates the Haitian people (including those buried deep/trapped by necessity in tent cities)- will remain true to the Wyclef who knew, loved, and fought for them- when Haiti was an unknown and its people...a forgotten nation. With God behind him, Wyclef Jean placed Haiti "on the map." True lovers of Haiti- will forever be grateful to Wyclef! http://www.cdinsight.com/news.php?readmore=6346

I posted the comments below on Wordpress and when I got to your AfaceAface page and learned that you had already decided to appeal- I was full of joy!

********************
Clef:
We had hoped that your candidacy for President of Haiti and hopeful election to Office was going to be a beginning to the end of a CORRUPT HAITIAN GOVERNMENT- that has passed its wicked torch from administration-to-administration and from term-to-term.

Your recent meeting with President Rene Preval probably played a great role in
keeping the youth population (which sought you as their next leader)- from a "just" uprising after the "unjust" decision of the CEP. Your love for the people and desire for order, I am sure, restrained and refrained you from allowing any activity that could have possibly led to further Haitian casualties. I am sure what you saw and experienced after January 12th was very compelling in your decision to ask of your supporters- a "peaceful" reaction to the CEP's decision.

In keeping with the Constitution of Haiti, please, as a leader, be that catalyst for ending corruption in Haiti- by challenging the current government to establishing a PERMANENT ELECTORAL COUNCIL before proceeding with election activities. Per Haiti's Constitution, only a ***PERMANENT*** Electoral Council may govern Haiti's electoral process- from selection of candidates to the election.

PLEASE Challenge the CEP through Haiti's judicial system....PLEASE!!!!!!
Haiti's government cannot be allowed to exercise a double standard! Haiti's Constitution is not an "At Will" instrument and should not be treated as such.

why these journalists are not investigating about the CEP procedure? Haitian's democracy at risk would be a better headline for the NYT. Weird, mainstream press is publishing conjectures and nothing about the lack of democracy in our country
